Local Authorities

In response to increasing requests from local authorities, The Caldecott Fostering Service was established to provide Local Authorities and Trusts with a unique resource – effective and lasting placements, backed up by almost a century’s experience of caring for some of Britain’s most damaged and vulnerable children.

Continuity of care and a seamless service from initial assessment through to fostering in line with the ‘Every Child Matters’ agenda enhances each child’s life chances, and meets the professional aspirations of social workers and education departments.

Our multi-disciplinary team provides specialist assessments and works to identify individual packages of care based on the needs of each child.

Accurate matching is the principal goal, with a range of placements, including...

Enhanced Placements

The Caldecott Foundation has extensive experience of working with extremely vulnerable young people with complex needs. These young people have often experienced previous breakdowns in foster care and lengthy periods of residential care. In order to achieve our aim of providing long term, stable placements it is understood that young people presenting with such experiences may require extra support in the areas of Education, Therapy and Social Work.

Long Term/Permanent Placements

The service is committed to providing long term/permanent placements for children and young people who require them. They will tend to last the duration of childhood and have an emphasis on preparation for independent or semi-independent living. These placements can be supplemented with additional services provided by the Foundation.

Bridging Placements

Generally this type of placement is for children and young people whose long term plan is a return to their family. The fostering service along with the Foundation’s multi-disciplinary team and in conjunction with the placing authority will work with both young people and their families towards a return home and provide ongoing outreach where appropriate.

Assessment/Short-Term Placements

These may be provided for children and young people who require a full assessment of their needs in a family environment. The service will use a multi-disciplinary model of assessment co-ordinated by a supervising social worker experienced in working with children and young people with complex needs. The assessment is then used as a basis for future care planning.

Respite Placements

Respite care is provided to support both carers and young people in the above placements where appropriate.

Respite is also available (with agreement of placing authorities) for children and young people within the Foundation’s residential service. This may be as part of an assessment for future long term fostering or simply to give a young person an experience of family life without the pressure of a permanent move.
