Caldecott care worker gets Highly Commended
7th January 2010

Robin Snelling (pictured above getting pelted with snowballs), one of Caldecott’s residential care workers, has been Highly Commended by City & Guilds for the quality of his work during the completion of his NVQ Level 3 in Health and Social Care, Children and Young People.
Robin joined Caldecott two and a half years ago and currently works at Mayfield which looks after young people aged between 10 and 18. After working for several years as a chef, Robin wanted a change of career direction, “I always enjoyed working with kids and my sister told me about Caldecott and the type of work it did. Since starting at Caldecott I haven’t looked back. I love it”.
The NVQ training requires candidates to be observed in their role and to complete a series of assignments and coursework whilst continuing with their full time job. Throughout the course of the year Robin’s hard work was noticed by his colleagues and his NVQ Assessor Sam Hopgood who said, “Robin has shown a consistent desire and drive to get the most out of the process and to achieve the highest standards of work”.
It was because of this dedication to his work along with extremely positive feedback from the young people in Mayfield that Robin was put forward for the award. Although he didn’t win the top prize, he was Highly Commended for his work. Clive Lee, Caldecott’s Chief Executive said, “We are all very proud of Robin’s achievement and thrilled that his hard work has been acknowledged by City & Guilds. Robin is a first class care worker and an asset to both the Foundation and the young people in his care”.
When asked what he most enjoyed about his job Robin said, “Working to give the kids experiences they haven’t had and probably wouldn’t get if they weren’t here. Hopefully when they look back on their childhood in later life we will have given them some really positive memories”.
