Centenary Appeal

HRH Prince Philip has endorsed our Centenary Appealquote closedThe Caldecott Foundation is a remarkable organisation. Founded 100 years ago by the visionary Miss Rendel, it recognised, and sought to deal with, the serious social problem of deprived, abused and abandoned children. Miss Leila Rendel hit on a formula of a residential home combined with rehabilitation and education. The formula proved to be highly successful, and it has been working its magic ever since.

I am delighted to have this opportunity to congratulate all those individuals who have worked with, or for, the Foundation over the last 100 years. It is their dedication and loyalty that has healed so many damaged young lives. I hope that the celebration of this centenary will help to ensure the future of the Foundation for many years to come.quote closed

Who are Caldecott Children?

Cruelty and neglect. Children arriving at the Caldecott Foundation have had the toughest possible start in life. They are vulnerable and angry, wouldn’t you be? Dozens of failed fostering and residential placements and disconnection from the education process have left them emotionally and educationally years behind their peers. The aim of our work is to redress this balance and to help them re-enter society and achieve their goals in life.

The fight for better futures…

Traditionally our children are placed at Caldecott School until the age of 16 at which point they move onto College or work. Many children find that they still need the additional support offered by Caldecott and struggle to cope at College and in living independently.

In addition, their lack of education in their early years means that children in care tend to struggle to achieve good GCSE results at 16.

We believe that with our century of experience and with your support we can offer these children a broader range of opportunities and a better chance of building a positive future.

Caldecott Centenary Appeal

In 2011 The Caldecott Foundation is celebrating 100 years experience in caring for children.  We are launching our Centenary Appeal to develop our provision for young adults, to arm them with qualifications and confidence. At our School we give special care alongside our teaching so that the most troubled of young people can receive an education.

We follow the national curriculum and make GCSE level success a reality for our 16 year olds.  To maximise their potential we want to offer a range of vocational subjects which offer GCSE level qualifications. To start, we plan to build a Vocational Learning Centre at our Smeeth site, which will offer subjects like:

  • Horticulture
  • Car Mechanics
  • Building
  • Childcare
  • Hair Dressing
  • Beauty Therapy
